13 May Cabo Verde 2015 Crime and Safety Report: crime is on the rise
A report by the United States bureau of diplomatic security reports what we have been suspecting all along: crime has been rising over the last decade. According to the report, the majority of crimes in the islands tend to be those for financial gain — pickpocketing, burglary, armed robbery — that are fueled, at least in part, by high unemployment and the islands’ growing drug trade. Most crimes are perpetrated by groups of youths, who are immune from prosecution until the age of 16.
